I attended Emily Carr College of Art & Design (now Emily Carr University) from 1980-84 and graduated with an Honours Diploma, Painting. In 1990 I received my B.F.A. From Open University.
In 1992, at the age of 42, I suffered a stroke. Undeterred, I continued to create art, using the recovery process as inspiration for my work. This experience gave me a deeper appreciation for the power of art as a form of self-expression and healing.
As an abstract painter, my work is a reflection of my innermost emotions and experiences, translated onto the canvas or paper through color, form, and texture. My process is spontaneous and intuitive, allowing me to access my subconscious and create a visual language that speaks directly to the soul.
I am fascinated by the interplay between chaos and order, and my paintings are a visual representation of this delicate balance. Through layers of paint and mark-making, I strive to capture the energy and movement of the natural world, while also exploring the depths of human emotion.
My intention is not to create a specific representation of reality, but rather to create a space for contemplation and introspection. I believe that art has the power to transcend language and culture, and my hope is that my paintings will resonate with people on a universal level.
Ultimately, my goal as an abstract painter is to create a visceral and emotional connection between the viewer and the painting, inviting them to explore their own emotions and experiences through the language of color and form.
